CHILDREN (KINDERGARTEN – 8^TH GRADE)

Epiphany Cathedral welcomes you to the Faith Formation for children (Kindergarten – 8^th grade) page. We provide religious instruction for children and youth who do not attend Epiphany Catholic school but are enrolled in public schools in the area. We support parents in their primary responsibility as teachers of the children.

We promote Catholic attitudes, values, and practices in formal classroom settings by emphasizing Catholic doctrine and teachings at age-appropriate levels: God, our Creator; the Trinity; Jesus and the Church; the Work of the Spirit in the Church; Prayer: Liturgy; Sacraments; Scripture; Stories of Mary and the Saints; Christian morality; Stewardship, the Commandments, and the Beatitudes.

Our Sacramental preparation for children is a 2-year program. The Sacramental class includes students in Grade 1 - 3 to receive 1st Reconciliation (Confession) and 1st Eucharist (Communion). We also have a 2-year- program for through OCIC (Order of Christian Initiation for Children). This is for students in grade 4 or higher to receive 1st Reconciliation (Confession) and 1st Eucharist (Communion).

Our Mission

The purpose of our Faith Formation Program is to facilitate ongoing conversion to Jesus Christ with a goal of full participation in the life of the Catholic Church by being the Hearts and Hands of Christ. Epiphany Cathedral welcomes all children and youth, baptized or not, to participate in our programs.

Options

·      Wednesday evenings from 6:30 – 7:30 pm

·      Sunday mornings from 10 – 11 am

Kindergarten – 6^th Grade

Epiphany Cathedral utilizes the Augustine Institute’s Word of Life Curriculum which has Catechist, Parent, and Student portals. Access is provided at the beginning of each school year.

Classes are offered both on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings.

Edge: 7^th & 8^th Grade

The Edge program utilizes the EDGE: LifeTeen curriculum which uses online and teaching programs. The catechist also utilizes other resources relevant to what is being taught.

The goal of Edge is to provide a safe and fun place for youth to find a solid Catholic community, get answers to their questions, and, most importantly, to experience Jesus in a profound and personal way. LifeTeen resources empower catechists the core team to evangelize teens into life-long disciples. LifeTeen have been supporting youth ministers for nearly four decades.

Classes are only offered on Wednesday evenings.

Calendar

Classes begin in early to mid-September and continue through part of May. Our calendar follows the Sarasota County school schedule. Therefore, when Sarasota schools are out, we typically are also off.
