Needs Today's Support!

The primary beneficiary of The Epiphany Foundation, Inc. is our parish school.  The Catholic school system has attained a level of excellence unsurpassed in American education by combining high academic standards and a disciplined environment with a religious dimension, generation after generation.

But it is never easy.  In these days of high technology and rising costs most school budgets are under increasing stress.  If tuition costs reach the hardship level, enrollments fall.  All schools show deficits and must be subsidized by the parish or the diocese.

At Epiphany, we have been able to maintain a high quality program with a tuition rate that covers only a portion of the actual cost.  The balance of  the operating costs have been covered by parish subsidy, second collections, the annual Drawing, and various fund-raising activities sponsored by school organizations.

As Venice continues to grow so will the demands on our school to continue to provide a first-rate Catholic education for our young people.

Now is the time to provide for the future.  You can help ensure that our children continue to receive the highest quality of education available through the parish by remembering THE EPIPHANY FOUNDATION, INC. in your financial and estate planning.

WAYS TO MAKE GIFTS

CASH GIFTS:  These usually provide current income tax deductions.

BEQUESTS:  A donor may name THE EPIPHANY FOUNDATION, INC. in a will to receive cash, securities, or other property at the time of death.  There are many ways to name the Foundation and one of its special interest areas in a will.  These should be discussed with the donor's legal counsel.

GIFTS OF LIFE INSURANCE:  Life Insurance offers a very special vehicle for charitable gifts because the size of the gift is usually many times the actual amount of the premiums paid up to the date of death.  Existing insurance may be used, new insurance policies may be purchased, or many combinations of old and new policies can be integrated into a gift-giving plan.

GIFTS OF APPRECIATED SECURITIES:  These gifts of stocks, bonds, and other securities that have increased in value since they were first purchased, can provide an income tax deduction which is based on their current value.

CHARITABLE REMAINDER ANNUITY TRUST:  This trust pays you (and/or whomever you designate) a fixed dollar amount for life.  Some portion of your contribution that goes into that trust is tax-deductible.  Upon death of the beneficiary(ies) the remainder goes to the Foundation.  This Annuity Trust provides stability because the dollar amount of income is predetermined.

CHARITABLE REMAINDER AND WEALTH REPLACEMENT TRUST:  This trust offers affluent individuals an opportunity to --

  • increase income and cash flow at retirement

  • reduce current taxes

  • shift substantial wealth to their children on a potentially tax-free basis

  • make a sizable contribution to the community

CHARITABLE LEAD TRUST:  This trust involves special tax savings and, as with all Foundation plans, should be discussed with appropriate professionals.  The Lead Trust is a method of contributing cash or property--such as stock in a family business--first to the Foundation, which benefits from the income for a specific period of years, and then back to the donor or whomever the donor desires.

HOW THE FUNDS WILL BE USED

Under the Foundation, there is a broad range of purposes for which Epiphany Cathedral may use the funds generated.  The Education Fund is intended to be used to defray costs and to help Epiphany School assist those families needing financial assistance.  Faculty development, curriculum enrichment and associated equipment purchases will be supported on an "as needed" basis.  Donor intentions and designation of funds are welcomed and strictly followed.

ADMINISTRATION OF THE FOUNDATION

A board consisting of the rector of the Cathedral, the principal of the school, the president of the parish council, and three to six parish members will administer the investment of funds and the distribution of proceeds in accordance with the intent of the funds, the regulations of the Diocese of Venice, and the laws governing foundations in the State of Florida.  Investment of the funds will be made in conjunction with professional money managers.

OTHER SPECIAL INTEREST AREAS OF THE FOUNDATION

Education is the primary interest area of the Epiphany Foundation but there are several other interest areas included under the Foundation umbrella for your consideration.  These include Parish Development, Seminarian Support, and Charitable Action.  Parishioners are encouraged to contact the Foundation office (941) 484-3505 to discuss their own particular area of charitable interest.  As needs arise they will be included in Foundation funding.
