What is Stewardship?

“As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” – 1 Peter 4:10

Stewardship is a way of life, a way of thanking God for all His blessings by returning a portion of the time, talent and treasure allotted to us. God grants us with many blessings every day and it is important for us to offer up our blessings to Him.

We believe that each member has been given unique gifts and talents by the Lord.

Stewardship calls us to develop and utilize these gifts, along with our time and treasure, to help us grow in holiness and to build God’s Kingdom. As a community of faith, we will help each member develop an appreciation of the gifts of time, talent, and treasure and to create opportunities to empower and engage our members in service to the Lord and our parish community. Epiphany Cathedral is a community committed to a vibrant culture of stewardship, collaboration, and engagement.

We are revitalizing Stewardship at Epiphany, as well as the Stewardship Council. If you would like more information or to become involved in the Stewardship revival, contact Jane Baldwin, Director of Religious Education & Stewardship 941-485-2325 or at baldwin@epiphanycathedral.org.

Time, Talent & Treasure

There are many exciting ways to make a difference in the world today. Acknowledging the importance of stewardship and being a good steward are ways to make that difference in the Church and the community. Stewardship is managing and protecting all that God has given to us for His glory and the support of His creation. The 3 Pillars of Stewardship are Time, Talent, and Treasure.

Time is one of the resources God has given us to manage. It is definitely a valuable resource and one we should cherish because we live with only a limited amount of time. It is essential that we plan a careful schedule to ensure that we take care of ourselves, our work, our faith and prayer time, our family, and our parish community. When we give our time, we are providing help to an organization, a ministry, our parish, or to an individual.

Talent allows us to acknowledge, care for, and share our God-given talents. By using our unique skills and expertise, we can give back to our community. When we volunteer to help our community by sharing our talents, we are giving something far more valuable than our time or money. It is an intimate sharing of ourselves.

Treasure is a part of generosity where we can donate our treasure. Our treasure doesn’t just include cash. It can also include real estate, collectibles, or setting up an endowment fund. When it comes to donating our treasure, it is important to remember that this gift is one given from God that we are supposed to share for the benefit of others. We also have a need to give not only to help others, but to return thanks to God for all that he has provided to us.

Many wonder how much they should give of their Time, Talent, and Treasure. Stewardship is not focusing on the minimum you can give. We should consider the maximum you can give. This means we should give as much as we can, as often as we can, while always giving from the heart because we want to be good stewards.

Everyone thinks the 3 T’s of Stewardship: Time, Talent, and Treasure are the fundamental parts that define Stewardship. They are important. However, there is so much more to Stewardship.

How to Get Involved

Church ministry is the work that a person does to serve God and others. Epiphany Cathedral is blessed to have ministries run by individuals that benefit the parish, parishioners, and the community. It can be a very rewarding experience to volunteer at the Cathedral and to help others. There are many opportunities to get involved in church ministry work.

We have a list of our ministries on our website and offer a ministry guidebook which offers a detailed listing of ministries that individuals can keep at their home. We also offer opportunities where our parishioners can identify and explore their God-given gifts and talents. When an individual can recognize and strengthen their gifts, they are able to realize that using their gifts assists them in being inspired and more committed. This results in transformation and most importantly evangelization.

Epiphany Cathedral’s Ministry Fair is held annually in January.

Stewardship Council

Epiphany Cathedral’s Stewardship Committee helps to guide the way for Epiphany Cathedral. According to Leisa Anslinger, internationally known Stewardship consultant “Stewardship committees are typically both advisory and active in ministry. In other words, like a council, stewardship committees advise the pastor or his designee on the elements and practices that are appropriate in a specific period of time or as the parish plans for the future.” Members of the committee typically are also ministry leaders as they are committed to being good stewards for God.

Epiphany Cathedral’s Stewardship Committee meet regularly.

If you would like additional information about the committee, reach out to Stephanie Palombo, Stewardship Coordinator at palombo@epiphanycathedral.org or Jane Baldwin, Director of Religious Education & Stewardship at baldwin@epiphanycathedral.org.
